If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now.

1 · Concepto

2 · Forma

Los dos tipos

Condición: pasado irrealIf + past perfect
Resultado: presentewould + verbo base
Condición: presente irrealIf + pasado simple
Resultado: pasadowould have + participio

En el resultado también puedes usar could o might en lugar de would.

3 · Uso

¿Cuándo se usa?

1

Un pasado distinto cambiaría el presente

If I had studied medicine, I would be a doctor now.

Si hubiera estudiado medicina, ahora sería médico.

If we hadn't missed the flight, we would be in Madrid now.

2

Un presente distinto habría cambiado el pasado

If I were more organized, I wouldn't have missed the deadline.

If she didn't speak English, she wouldn't have got the job.

Si no hablara inglés, no habría conseguido el trabajo.
